About Us

Y. H. Kao, MD, FACS

Dr. Kao grew up in Harrisburg, PA. He attended the Pennsylvania State University, graduating with highest distinction in 1975. He earned his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA., in 1976 through the five year  accelerated combined B.S. and M.D. program. and. After completing one year of internship training at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Dr. Kao entered the United States Navy in 1977 where he served for eight years. During that time, he completed his residency training at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA., in 1983.

Dr. Kao is board certified in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and in the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. He is also a member in the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

With over 30 years of experience in Otolaryngology, Dr. Kao has practiced in central Pennsylvania for 25 years. He is recognized as a thought leader in balloon sinuplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery. He is published in literature for the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. He innovated navigational sinuplasty where the balloon can be guided in real time on computer in to the sinuses. He also innovated anatomically based multilevel surgery for obstructive sleep apnea with a published successful treatment rate of 82%.
